A few general notes on how it all works. Let's start with the Autonomic Nervous System, organized into the Sympathetic Nervous System, responsible for the Fight, Flight or Freeze response, and the Parasympathetic Nervous System, which covers the Rest, Digest and Repair portion that the subconscious mind uses to maintain the body's optimal state. It is either-or. We can't be in both the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic dominance. When we are in the Sympathetic dominance—Fight, Flight or Freeze—healing can be challenging and time-consuming.

The role of the subconscious mind is not to make us happy but to keep us safe. When we enter the Parasympathetic domain, we relax, enabling self-healing, which is the intention for each session. But how to relax when you are about to meet a practitioner with a hard-to-pronounce last name and share some details of your life, which are often quite sensitive? The answer is TRUST. Not in me, but in yourself and in the Higher Power that got you here. Slow your breathing. Try to use the diaphragm to inhale through the nose slowly. Pause for a moment, and exhale, pausing as well when you empty your lungs. Relax your shoulders. Let them drop down. Close your eyes and imagine a safe place where you feel comfortable. After a few rounds of slow breathing, you will notice an increase in the saliva in your mouth - a sign that your body is in the Rest, Digest and Repair dominance. Drink some water before a session and let your intuition guide you. It may sound complicated, but it's not - it is actually quite simple.
